Haiku as a Gratitude Workshop
November 15th @ 1:00 - 3:30 PM

Prepare for the season of Thanksgiving by spending an afternoon at JH Museum on November 15th from 1:00 - 3:30 PM exploring how reading and writing haiku can teach us to pay attention to the world around us, deepening our awareness of the gifted nature of life. Holli Rainwater will be your guide as we explore the notion of gratitude, highlight some of the elements that make a good haiku, and learn how to cultivate “haiku mind,” a way of being in the world with open-hearted awareness. No haiku experience necessary! This will be a friendly and fun experience with an emphasis on curiosity and connection to ourselves, each other and the world we live in. Admission to the workshop will be $5.00 and can be paid in advance by registering using the button below or at the door on the day of the event.

Nigel Brush: “The Cox South-E Site near the Village of Walhonding: A 4200-Year Old Lanceolate Workshop Site”
November 19th @ 6:00 PM

For more than three decades, archaeologists Nigel Brush and Jeffrey Dilyard have been uncovering the history of the Walhonding Valley. Their research has taken them from Late Woodland and Late Prehistoric village sites near Coshocton and Warsaw to the search for Tullihas, an 18th-century Native American village described by both French and English sources. Along the way, they’ve made fascinating discoveries—including a 4,200-year-old workshop where ancient hunters crafted flint spear points, likely used for hunting bison during a colder, prairie-rich period in Ohio’s past.
Join us on November 19th at 6:00 PM at The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum as Brush shares their journey, findings, and insights in this special presentation titled “The Cox South-E Site near the Village of Walhonding: A 4200-Year Old Lanceolate Workshop Site,” concluding with their most recent work at the Cox Site in April 2025. Winners of the Mary Harris Prizes Essay Contest will be announced and awarded at the end of the presentation. Admission will be $5.00 at the door.

Qigong Classes at JHM, Instructed by Holli Rainwater

***CURRENTLY ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE***

Want a good way to shake off those mid-week blues, already feeling the dreary winter season setting in, or just want a fun, relaxing way to get moving? Why not spend an hour with Holli Rainwater and a session of Qigong at the museum, every Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 AM!

Qigong (pronounced 'chee gong') is an ancient Chinese health care system that combines gentle body movements, breath practice, and deep relaxation. We will use the Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi form as our core practice. This is a very "user friendly" form with many benefits for both the beginner and more seasoned practitioner.

This class is free of charge and no prior experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and lightweight shoes. Qigong is very gentle and relaxing and does not require getting down on the floor. Holli Rainwater will lead the class, who has been studying and teaching Qigong since 2004 and is certified as a Tai Chi Easy practice leader. This program is made possible by the support of the Joe R. Engle Museum Gallery Fund of the Coshocton Foundation.
