Volunteer Opportunities

Become a cultural advocate at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum by volunteering your time and talent!

There are so many ways you can participate! From a single contribution, such as helping with a special exhibit, to ongoing involvement in collections or programs. If you have the time, we have the job that compliments your skills.

The following are areas where we need regular or periodic assistance. Please do not feel limited to them. You may have skills that aren't listed that would help us expand our educational programs and enhance exhibits. Volunteers are essential in all aspects of JHM's work.

Front Desk Staff
Be the smiling face of the Museum! Greet visitors, take admission money, assist in the gift shop, and preform general office duties. Front Desk Staff aew vital to the day to day functioning of JHM. With open availability, make your own schedule! From once a week to once a month, your time will be well spent at JHM!

Mailing Staff
Be a part of our Newsletter Team! Sometimes it really does take a village. Our quarterly newsletter comes with a team of dedicated volunteers who work together to get them labeled and mailed on time.

Collection Preservation
Help us keep the museum alive! The artifacts found at JHM are its most valuable asset! Help us care for them by cleaning, inventorying, and photographing collection items. You can also help by lending your strength to moving cases or helping to take down exhibits. Have a special talent or skill? Volunteer to help construct specialty items such as gun mounts for storage or sewing clothing for tours or exhibits.

Computer Work
Are you more of a behind the scenes type? Volunteer for research, data entry, or document editing. Work closely with our staff on projects and exhibits.

Hospitality
Are you a people person? Does friendliness come naturally to you? Volunteer to help JHM keep a hospitable environment. Greet guests at openings or lectures, serve refreshments, assist with set up and clean up, or prepare food to be served to guests.

Exhibitions
Is creativity your specialty? Lend your mind to our planning committee! Help us plan and design our exhibits, or help with set up!

Docents
History and education is our main focus at JHM! Help us make it a reality! If history is your passion, volunteer to give tours! Prefer education? Assist us in day camp or children's activities!

Ask us about how to become a member of the Friends of the Museum Board! Responsibilities include: monthly meetings, planning and executing fundraisers, and giving general assistance to staff.
