Meet Me at the Museum

“Meet Me at the Museum” every last Tuesday of the month from 12:00 to 1:00 PM for our lunchtime program! Bring a lunch or enjoy some snacks on us as we gather together and casually discuss a new topic each time we meet. No registration is needed. This program is offered at no charge and made possible by the support of the Ohio Arts Council. Check out the list below for this quarter’s schedule.

• January 31st—Tea Tasting
Help us celebrate Hot Tea Month! We’ll discuss tea traditions from around the globe, sample different types of tea, look at some of the museum’s many tea artifacts, and have a relaxing time. There might even be scones!

• February 28th—Armchair Field Trip to Historic Deerfield
Before she was captured and taken to live with the Mohawk people of Canada, Mary Harris lived in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Join us as Holli Rainwater shares pictures and information from her recent visit to Historic Deerfield where she and her husband walked in Mary’s footsteps and learned more about life in this 18th century Colonial village, both before and after of the 1704 raid.

• March 28th—History of the Arts and Crafts Movement
March is National Craft Month so we’re going to take a peek at the history of the Arts and Crafts Movement in America which extended from the late 1800s into the 1920s, partially as a response to the Industrial Revolution. Our focus will be on Deerfield, Massachusetts, which was the location of one of the first Arts and Crafts groups in the nation. We will also see what was going on in Ohio, home of many pottery firms, including Rookwood Pottery of Cincinnati.

This ongoing program is offered free of charge with the support of the Joe R. Engle Museum Gallery Fund of the Coshocton Foundation.
