Looking Back at Being Black in Rural Ohio with Ric Sheffield
Date Pending
|
Join us for an evening with Ric Sheffield, author of We Got By: A Black Family’s Journey in the Heartland. Ric grew up in Mt. Vernon and spent time visiting extended family in Coshocton - he is the nephew of Lula and Vivian Williams. His memoir spans four generations and addresses the legacies of traumatic events that are part of the racial dynamics of this country. And yet, his family overcame the obstacles and managed to persist: they got by. His book is important in part because it contains little-known Coshocton history. You are invited to read the book before the event, but this is not required. Copies of the book may be purchased through Ohio State Press and may also be borrowed through your local library. This program is made possible, in part, by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom.
