"The Community Within: Discovering African American History in Rural Ohio" with Ric SheffieldRural Ohio has a long-established history of black communities that are often overlooked by the larger white communities they reside with. Ric Sheffield will detail the process of reclaiming the lost history of African Americans in Knox County. Sheffield has family in Coshocton and is the author of We Got By: A Black Family's Journey in the Heartland. He is Professor Emeritus of Legal Studies and Sociology at Kenyon College. He served as Associate Provost of the College and is also the Director of Kenyon's Law and Society Program and the John Adams Summer Scholars Program in Socio-legal Studies. Sheffield has focused on the relationship between law and gender, race, and ethnicity.
This program will be held at the JH Museum on June 14th at 6:30 and admission will be free.
