Director Jennifer Bush is hosting a virtual basket weaving workshop for children ages 8 years old to 12 years old on February 27th from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. on Zoom! Login and hear a short history on basket weaving and learn the techniques used by many Native American Tribes then try your hand at making your very own basket!
We’ll begin the workshop with an overview of the craft through JHM’s American Indian basketry collection. How did American Indians make their baskets? What fibers did they use? How were the baskets used? You will learn this and more by seeing examples of different weaves, discovering materials used, and studying overall designs. Jennifer Bush will then provide step-by-step instructions on a basic weaving technique.
All participants will receive their own materials to complete a basket. You will need a large bucket or sink basin to soak reeds in water, and you will need a large area to work where water will not damage your surroundings. The cost for this program is $5 per person.
Space is limited! Please register by filling out the form below.
This program is sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council.
