A Playground of Color

Our elementary school art exhibit has been extended to Saturday, April 7th. Treat yourself to a banquet of colors and creativity. Below, Jazmin Rose, a second-grade student from Central Elementary, stands with her brother before her horse drawing at the artists’ reception in January.

Open Mike Night
Friday, March 30 at 7:00 P.M.

If you are utterly, totally and completely about !MUSIC!—if you are an area teen or twenty-something looking to entertain or looking for fun, the JHM Teen Group invites you to the Museum for Open Mike Night. Bring your guitars, your drums, your horns, your voices. It’s FREE and prizes will be awarded for “Most Entertaining” and “Most Creative.” Sign up by calling or e-mailing JHM.

Jeff Corder, Coshocton City Fire Department
Thursday, April 26, 7:00 P.M.

Save the date on April 26, when JHM will present a program about a presence in our community that we all too often take for granted—the Coshocton City Fire Department. Fire Prevention Officer, Jeff Corder, will be with us to recount the details of its sometimes colorful, always pertinent, history. Many Benton Clark aficionados may be aware that his mural from the old Main Street station was moved to a place of honor when the 7th Street facility was built. Jeff has been with the Fire Department since 1980. Join us, and bring your questions, for an interesting evening of history and education.

Teen-Age Talent
April 21—May 13

Teen-Age Talent, showcasing artwork created by area high school students, is our next special exhibit, replacing A Playground of Color, on display through April 8th. Don’t miss this opportunity to view excellent artwork as well as gain insight into our population’s teenage experience.

Pushing the Surface
May 19—August 19

Pushing the Surface is an invitational art quilt exhibit featuring contemporary works that have evolved from the traditional quilt. The show is broad and inclusive in scope, encompassing a range of techniques including traditional and machine quilting and embroidery, photo montage, painting, appliqué, and laser printing. Styles vary from content-oriented and landscape forms to abstract. This is the fifth year JHM has presented Pushing the Surface, a biannual exhibit, sponsored this year by the Mary Taylor Family Fund.
